Some Benefits of Spiritual Guidance

Eckhart Tolle in his book The New Earth puts forward what he calls Three Modalities of Awakened Doing. These three modalities “in which you can align your life with the creative power of the universe.” (Tolle, 295). These are essentially three ways of being in which one should always seek to be within. They are:

Acceptance: When you can’t enjoy what you’re doing, you can at least accept that this is what you have to do, and bring a sense of responsibility and awareness to this circumstance. This brings about a peace while you do it.

Joy: This peace turns into a sense of aliveness. Joy occurs when you participate in the universal creative power that is always available, and is awakened within you.

Enthusiasm: This is the state in which the joy that is awakened within you has the added element of a goal or a vision that you are working towards.

I find this a helpful paradigm, as it sets up a healthy way of being in the world, in which we are aligned with our values, attuned to our deepest truth, and working towards something Good. Isn’t this what we all want?

Spiritual guidance is a space in which you can discern for yourself how to attune to these realities, and practice these three modalities with sincerity and authenticity.

Some other benefits of spiritual guidance include:

Attunememt with the Source of your being – this can be closeness to God, relationship to Nature, oneness with the Universe – however you name the ground of all being.

Purpose/Meaning: Discernment on what truly matters to you. What has real value in your life?

Congruence: Alignment with your values, purpose and meaning. Are you living life in a way that aligns with these? Or do your habits, work, and relationships inhibit or run counter to your values?

Synchronicity: When we live in alignment, God responds. The Universe works with us to seek greater Good in the world, through us. We live with a deeper sense of abundance and realize that we are flourishing more and more.

Balance: We realize that we cannot save the world, let alone our own families, colleagues, and friends, unless we take care of ourselves. Rest and sabbath practice become more paramount. We dedicate more time to play, and doing things for no other reason than to enjoy them.

Processing: In spiritual guidance, you have a place to unpack what is happening in your life; where you feel blocked, where you feel any sense of desolation, boredom, frustration. And as you do so, your deepest truths are allowed to see the light of day, and you will find ways to move out of these spaces of desolation and into spaces of imagination, creativity, and flourishing.

Soul Friendship: You will realize that relationships with others gain greater importance, and that some people in your life may be hindering your sense of flourishing and growth. Others may come forward as having greater importance – helping you live with vulnerability, authenticity, courage, and greater love.

Mystical awareness: We have all had experiences that were unexplainable. Sometimes these are easy to describe, like climbing to the top of a mountain and being overwhelmed by the grandeur. Or we receive energy or emotions that happen for no apparent reason. Sometimes they seem strange and weird – even out of body. Often, we feel uncomfortable sharing these experiences because we’ll be perceived as crazy or needing fixing. In spiritual guidance, you can bring these experiences to me and I will always hold and receive your sharing of them with no judgement and with honoring. I believe you!

Growth: Being in spiritual guidance over time, you will realize that you are progressing in and deepening in all of the above.
